SPSS Named Among Top Data Warehouse/Business Intelligence Vendors

Leading Analytic Software Vendor Leaps 14 Spots to No. 14 in Data Warehouse 100

CHICAGO, 11/17/99

Confirming its growing leadership in business intelligence and data mining, SPSS Inc. (Nasdaq: SPSS) was named, for the second consecutive year, among the 100 most influential data warehouse/business intelligence vendors. SPSS ranked No. 14 this year -- up from No. 28 in 1998 -- in the Data Warehouse 100, a comprehensive market study in which DM Review readers rate the vendors of data warehouse/business intelligence products used in their organizations.

"The companies that make up DM Review's Data Warehouse 100 are effectively meeting the needs of the explosive business intelligence and data warehouse marketplace," said Ron Powell, publisher/editorial director of DM Review in a press release announcing the Data Warehouse 100. "These companies were identified by our readers and inclusion in this exclusive group demonstrates each company's commitment to excellence."

"This award is particularly gratifying because it comes directly from the people who use our business intelligence products," said Jack Noonan, SPSS president and CEO. "Moving up 14 places on the list indicates increasing recognition of our strength in data mining. More generally, our higher ranking underscores the market's recognition of analytical software as the key to data warehouse return on investment. Analytical software leverages the warehouse investment by enabling people to make better decisions. With data mining, decision makers go beyond simple query and reporting capabilities, and even beyond OLAP, to incorporate predictive power in decisions." Noonan will be among the data warehousing industry leaders profiled in a related feature article, scheduled to run in the December 1999 issue of DM Review . The DM Review "Data Warehouse 100" provides a unique insight into the future of the data warehousing and business intelligence market. The comprehensive survey, conducted jointly by DM Review and Market Perspectives, a Massachusetts-based intelligence company serving the data management industry, asked readers to rate vendors of data warehousing and business intelligence products used in their organizations. Nearly 700 customer questionnaires were compiled into an index that accounted for the mean rating, the number of responses, the comparative position of the vendor in each product category and the number of categories in which the vendor's products appeared. The result is DM Review's Data Warehouse 100.
