SPSS Inc. Ranked 115 on Software 500

Provider of Analytical Solutions Among World's Largest Software Companies

CHICAGO, 07/27/00

Demonstrating its position as a leading provider of analytical solutions that enable companies to develop more profitable customer relationships, SPSS Inc. (Nasdaq: SPSS) placed No. 115 on the Software 500. The Software 500, published by Software magazine, ranks the world’s largest software vendors based solely on software revenue. SPSS' 1999 net revenues totaled $142 million.

"Our ranking on the Software 500 confirms SPSS' position as a leader in analytical solutions that discover what customers want and predict what they will do," said Jack Noonan, SPSS president and CEO. "Our solutions, based on our 32-year history in analysis of customer data and our proven technology, are gaining greater and greater acceptance among organizations throughout the world, which has helped establish our leadership position."

The Software 500 is based on total worldwide software and software-related services revenue for 1999. The ranking includes public companies and many private companies that disclose revenue. Suppliers are not ranked on their total corporate revenue, since many have other lines of business in addition to software. Software revenue includes license fees, as well as revenue from product maintenance and support and professional services. Revenue from training, hardware sales and peripherals are excluded. Figures are based on the calendar year so that all firms are measured over the same four quarters.
