CHICAGO, 10/25/99 —
For the second time in the company's 31-year history, SPSS Inc. (Nasdaq: SPSS) was ranked as one of the nation's "200 Best Small Companies" by Forbes magazine. The inclusion of SPSS in this group of successful companies confirms the company's leadership in providing data mining software and services.
SPSS placed No. 70 in Forbes' 200 "Best Small Companies in America," according to the Nov. 1 issue. The article states, "There's not an Internet stock among them -- for the simple reason that Forbes has very strict financial performance standards for this exclusive club. For starters, that means clear evidence of profits -- a five-year average annual growth in earnings of 10 percent, which no Web company can come close to -- just to qualify as a candidate for the list."
The SPSS ranking is based on its average of 36 percent return on equity over the past five years. "This ranking is another milestone for SPSS," said Jack Noonan, SPSS president and CEO. "What's even more exciting are the possibilities for the future. With the growing interest in data mining and customer relationship management solutions, SPSS is in the prime position to deliver more growth and value -- both to our customers and to our shareholders."
