We can finish projects very rapidly - we have even had studies completed the day after finalizing the questionnaire.
A number of research firms, particularly in the United States, have invested in their own Web servers and are becoming very experienced in collecting survey data over the Web. IntelliQuest (www.intelliquest.com) is one such company, running more than 75 projects in 1998 with Quancept Web and obtaining more than 80,000 completed interviews.
As a leading provider of information services for technology enterprises, IntelliQuest often runs Web surveys in a variety of Western European languages, as well as in Chinese, Korean, and Japanese. The range of studies that IntelliQuest conducts is diverse and the projects vary greatly, both in complexity and size.
One of the higher-volume surveys IntelliQuest conducts with Quancept Web is its new Ebranding™ syndicated marketing research service. Ebranding represents responses from more than 10,000 randomly selected Internet users, quantifying their online shopping, buying habits, preferences, and brand perceptions. It measures awareness levels for more than 40 different branded sites and products, with side-by-side comparisons for 80 brands within nine market categories. IntelliQuest recruited respondents by placing banner adverts on many major Web sites. To access the survey, respondents simply clicked on the link in the ad.
The Ebranding data was gathered over the course of a month. The results from the first wave indicate the potential tripling of e-commerce activity in the U.S. in the 12 months after the study. Eighty-one percent of the respondents intended to shop or buy online over the next year, 63 percent have shopped and 22 percent had bought in the previous 90 days. The results within specific product categories are even more dramatic, with three to five times more people intending to shop or buy than are currently shopping.
Researchers at IntelliQuest see a steady increase in demand for Web surveys and are pleased with the flexibility that Quancept Web gives them. “The Quancept scripting language is easy to learn and a very efficient means of producing a survey,” said Darcy Norman, senior product architect within IntelliQuest’s Product Development Team. “We frequently use the IntelliQuest Technology Panel as our sample source for Web-based studies, which really gives us an edge over most other research firms. With the IntelliQuest Technology Panel and Quancept Web, we can finish projects very rapidly– we have even had studies that we have completed the day after finalizing the questionnaire.”
Patrick Quigley, vice president of sales for SPSS Inc. in the U.S., commented, “It’s great that such a pioneer in Web data collection uses Quancept Web. IntelliQuest has proven that the Web is a truly viable way to collect research data.”
