Reusing the same categories for multiple questions
If you created a set of categories for an open-ended question in your survey, you can use Code Frame Manager in SPSS Text Analysis for Surveys 2.1 to reuse the same categories with another question.
For example, let's assume you surveyed people about what kinds of things they considered when renting a car for business reasons, and, in another question, for leisure reasons. Some of the categories for the business-related question would also apply to the leisure question. You can use Code Frame Manager to share the categories you already developed with other questions:
The category information is now ready to use in your other question. However, all the categories are unpopulated with "(0)" after the category name. In order to populate the categories, drag terms from the "extract term" list (found below the window shown above) onto the appropriate category. For example, as shown below in Figure 3, you could add the terms "cost" and "price" to the Pos: Pricing and Billing category. This gives you complete control over which term is added to a category.
Another option is to directly copy and paste the categories from one question into the Categories pane for the second question. Then, run an extraction and the responses will be assigned to the correct categories. If the terms have already been extracted, the categories will be automatically populated as well. This method takes less time than using Code Frame Manager, but it gives you less control since the categorization occurs automatically. You should try both methods to discover which one you like best.
