Creating cascading reports with Microsoft Excel and ShowCase Essbase

When using ShowCase Essbase with Excel, do you often find yourself creating the same report for multiple members? With the Cascade reporting function, you can easily create multiple reports for members of any desired dimension. Typically, each report has values based on individual members within a dimension. For example, you might develop a cascading product report over time that allots a spreadsheet for each major region in a dimension.

With cascading reports you can also suppress missing sheets, rename sheet tabs, and create a table of contents. In addition, you can create each report in its own Excel workbook or as separate tabs within the same workbook.

Take these steps to create a cascading report:

1. Create your Essbase report in Excel.

2. Choose the dimension that contains the members for which you would like to create multiple reports. Place the dimension to the far left. The example below uses "Territories" for this dimension so that you can create a report for each territory.
